Visual AIDS Calls for Artists for Postcards on the Edge

Visual AIDS has put out a call for submissions for their twenty-second annual “Postcards from the Edge,” a unique exhibit and sale of original postcard-sized artworks, one of the charity’s most important and most popular of the fundraiser benefits.

The exhibit and sale will run January 3 through 5, 2020, at the Bortolami gallery in New York City. The artwork, by both established and emerging artists, will be exhibited anonymously; the identity of the artist is revealed only after the artwork has been purchased.

Artists interested in participating should follow simple directions. Create an original piece of art on a 4×6-inch heavyweight postcard stock——or affix an existing work to the postcard. Prints, paintings, photographs, drawings, even mixed-media pieces are welcome in the exhibit. On the back of the postcard, write your name (on the BACK only, please) and use an arrow to indicate the top of the artwork. The deadline for submissions is Monday, November 25, 2019. A complete set of instructions and an artist’s entry form is available on Visual AIDS website.

For thirty years now, Visual AIDS has been a vital part of the HIV/AIDS community. Visual AIDS produces AIDS-focused art programs and provides supplies and assistance to artists living with HIV, many of whom would unable to continue producing work without such support. They use exhibitions and other programs as a means to educate and advocate and to fight the stigma that attaches to HIV/AIDS. Visual AIDS recognizes that “The history of AIDS activism and the losses of the ongoing AIDS crisis continue to resonate with multiple generations, highlighting the essential and far-reaching nature of our mission and work to support and preserve a legacy for HIV+ artists.”
