Marlon Bundo Bow Tie Benefits AIDS United, Trevor Project

Marlon Bundo first hopped into our hearts in March 2018 in A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, a children’s picture book that tells the story of Marlon, the Bunny of the United States (BOTUS), who falls in love with the male bunny of his dreams [A&U, March 2018]. A Day in the Life explores issues of marriage equality, diversity, tolerance, and democracy——and was fortuitously released the day before a very different picture book about Marlon, written by Charlotte Pence, the VP’s daughter, and illustrated by his wife, “Mother” Karen, hit the stores. One hundred percent of the proceeds from A Day in the Life have gone to The Trevor Project and AIDS United.
Now Marlon has teamed up with his buddy John Oliver (Last Week Tonight, an early Marlon booster) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Tie the Knot Foundation to design a bow tie reminiscent Marlon’s own festive neckwear in the book.
The self-tie bow tie is 100% woven silk, and like Marlon’s, features a white field covered with painterly dots in red, gold, periwinkle blue, mauve, and black. Tied, the bow tie is two inches tall and four-and-a-half inches wide. The tie, available exclusively at the Tie Bar shop online for $25.00, can be dressed up (the site suggests a black or charcoal suit) or just-for-fun with jeans. Twenty dollars of the $25 purchase price is donated to the Tie The Knot Foundation, which in turn supports AIDS United and The Trevor Project. Sorry, the purchase is not tax deductible.
